Boot Kilties are a simple add-on that protects your boot’s tongue from wear, improves the fit of your boots if they run a little roomy, and offer an easy way to change up the look without buying a new pair. Each pair is built with a lace keeper to keep it centered and in place all day, no matter how you wear your boots.
  • Material: Made from 4-5 oz Cloe (Italy) Vegetable Tanned Burgundy Shell Cordovan (Horse)
  • Sourcing: Made in the USA
  • Sold as a pair

Functional Applications of Boot Kilties

 Protecting the Boot Tongue

The tongue of your boot takes a beating. Laces rub against it constantly, wearing down the leather over time. Kilties act as a buffer, absorbing the friction and extending the life of your boots. They also have the added benefit of adding an extra layer of protection to your foot for those utilizing their footwear for hard work.

Improving Fit

Kilties can be a great help in helping filling out your footwear if you have a lower volume foot, creating a snugger, more comfortable fit. This is particularly helpful for taller boots or those with more flexible uppers.

Change The Look

Let’s not overlook the aesthetic appeal! Kilties can be a quick way to give your boots a new vibe without having to spend hundreds of dollars for a new pair. They’re perfect for anyone who appreciates boots with character and wants to make them their own.

How To Install Boot Kilties

Unlace Your Boots

Remove the laces so you have full access to the original tongue. Now is a great time to condition and polish your boots!

Position the Kiltie

Place the kiltie over the tongue, with the bottom edge extending slightly onto the vamp (the part of the boot that covers your foot). Put your laces through the eyelet and into the hole on the kiltie, putting the lace underneath the kiltie, and thread back through the other side.

Thread the Laces

Continue to lace up your boots until you get to the lace keeper and pass the laces through the keeper. This ensures the kiltie stays in place and doesn't slide side-to-side like most kilties. Finish lacing up your boots as normal!

Just like everything I’ve gotten from Guarded Goods these kilties are great. They do exactly what they are designed to do and I think they look great on my burgundy rambler boots.

Horween Outland kilties, what an interesting leather. The forest color goes nicely with my Sage chamois Russell Moccasins. Outland is a vegetable tanned waterproof leather - what an unusual combination. The hydrophobic side of this leather is actually the FLESH side, not the grain side which feels almost like a nubuck. Despite being hydrophobic, it does get water stains pretty easily but seems to dry out fairly quickly.

This leather isn't made anymore, so get it while you can! It's basically CXL horsebutt. It has the same CXL smoothness (corrected grain) and pullup. The color is somewhat orange.

Perfect match for the copper rough & tough as suggested by Jesse. Do drop him a message for recommendations. Got a pair for my briar oil slicks along with their laces too. Quality products.

I haven’t had a chance to use them yet. When my boots come back from recrafting I’ll put them in my boots. They are the color that I wanted and I’m sure they will look amazing in the boots.

I wanted a kiltie in matching leather to fill up a little boot space since I have a lower volume foot, but I didn’t want the kiltie “look”. These do the job perfectly. Very nice leather, hardly noticeable.

Great kilties! Fixed fit issues with a pair of boots due to low volume fit, knock on wood. Quick delivery and good communication as well.

I got these for my Grant Stone Diesels to help fill up some volume and to protect the tongue, and they've done do exceedingly well. Shell also seems to be a superb material for kilties because it never forms digging creases and is very durable. Bonus points for this product coming from a fellow Minnesotan. Highly recommend.

Guarded Goods kilties are perfect for my application. The chromexcel leather is very supple and, using the color chart on GG's website, the match with my boots is also perfect. Anyone needing leather lace--I have several pairs--or false tongues for their boots won't go wrong with Guarded Goods.
